Vehicle stuck in limp-home mode: if the tcm determines there’s a problem with a shift solenoid, it may put the vehicle in “limp-home mode.” in this state, the transmission will be forced into second or third gear to limit your speed, and one or more warning lights will appear on the dashįind a shop in your area how to fix the problemĭiagnosis is key when it comes to transmission problems, as various issues can cause similar problems. as a result, the transmission may not shift gears or it may get stuck in neutral. Transmission won’t shift gears: a faulty shift solenoid can prevent fluid pressure from activating the appropriate gear. a failed shift solenoid can also cause transmission slippage, where your engine revs faster but the car stays at the same speed. a problem with one or more of the solenoids can cause a lack of pressure, resulting in hard, soft or delayed shifts. if it detects a problem with one of the solenoids or the related circuits, it will send a request to the engine’s computer to turn on the check engine light.Įrratic shifting or shift slippage: the shift solenoids regulate the flow of hydraulic fluid for shifting. The check engine light comes on: the tcm continuously monitors shift solenoid operation. if you leave it unchecked, your transmission can get damaged, which will lead to a very costly repair bill. avoid any highway use and have it towed, if necessary. i think i read somewhere that if there is a tranny code thrown the transmission runs at higher line pressure. To me, it seems like an electrical problem or the TCM, possibly the TPS? I dont know much about these cobalts n i was hoping to find some help here. ive also noticed the TCC locks up at much lower speeds than before. When its acting up, in first gear it doesnt want to shift until like 4500 or higher RPM's, and when it does, its very rough. The check engine light goes on and off inbetween running the car. It seems to do it on long trips as well like if i drive a couple hours, it will start acting up after a long day of driving. Then sometimes if you crank it up, it shifts perfectly normal like before and the check engine light is off. Sometimes when you run it, it'll shift terrible, and it throws a check engine light. Funny thing is it doesnt do it all the time. The car shifts at very high RPM's in first gear and is rough in all the other gears.
